Scam Pattern: “Iryna Strashko”

A Frequently Reported Identity

The name “Iryna Strashko” has appeared repeatedly in verification requests handled by Nesting Check. This is not the first time our team has investigated a woman using this identity.

Although the amount of information supplied by the latest victim is limited, the available evidence follows a familiar pattern involving an initial successful money transfer, a new financial obstacle connected with travel documents, and the use of a false Ukrainian identity.

€500 Sent Through Remitly

According to the victim, €500 was sent through Remitly.com and successfully received by the woman presenting herself as Iryna Strashko.

The fact that an initial payment is successfully received often strengthens the victim’s confidence that the relationship and financial situation are genuine. In this case, however, the €500 payment was followed by a new demand for money.

The Bank Loan Suddenly Became a Problem

After receiving the first payment, “Iryna” reportedly introduced another obstacle: an alleged bank loan that was supposedly preventing her from obtaining or using her passport.

The victim was then asked to provide additional money so that the loan could supposedly be repaid and the passport problem resolved.

This is a common escalation pattern in romance scams. The first payment does not solve the situation. Instead, a new problem appears immediately afterward and is presented as the final obstacle preventing the woman from traveling or meeting the victim.

A Fake Ukrainian Passport Was Used to Support the Story

The case also involved a Ukrainian passport presented as genuine. According to the information available to us, the passport was fake and was used to reinforce the Ukrainian identity presented to the victim.

Official-looking documents can make a fabricated story appear much more convincing. Victims may assume that a woman who can provide a passport must be genuine, but a passport image alone does not prove identity.

When a woman claims to be Ukrainian but there are inconsistencies in her story, the person behind the profile should be independently verified. Our Russian Woman Profile Verification can help establish who is actually behind the identity before additional money is sent.

The Pattern: Small Payment First, Bigger Problem Next

The structure of this case is straightforward:

  • Step 1: Build trust under the name “Iryna Strashko.”
  • Step 2: Receive an initial payment of €500 through Remitly.
  • Step 3: Introduce a new financial problem involving an alleged bank loan.
  • Step 4: Claim that the debt is preventing passport access or travel.
  • Step 5: Use a fake Ukrainian passport to make the story appear legitimate.
  • Step 6: Request additional money to supposedly remove the final obstacle.

Why This Case Is Important

The most important point is that the “Iryna Strashko” identity is not new to us. Nesting Check has encountered this woman repeatedly in separate verification requests.

Repeated appearances under the same false identity are particularly significant because they suggest a reusable scam persona rather than a one-time misunderstanding between two people.

For men who are already communicating with a woman using this name, we strongly recommend verifying the person before sending additional money.

Key Warning Signs
